  • Bill Gates shares the latest books he liked as a recommendation for the summer

  • They all share a common thread: the desire to serve society in the stories their authors tell.

The good weather is approaching and with it the desire to lie down on the beach or under a shade in the countryside to enjoy a moment of relaxation. As has become almost a tradition in recent summers, Bill Gates shares his list of recommended books to enjoy the habit of reading with interesting titles.

Bill Gates’s love of reading is well known, and he confesses to being an insatiable reader. He assures that reads about 50 books a year and in the documentary about his life ‘Bill Gates: Under the Magnifying Glass’, he always carries a bag full of books with him that he devours in his moments of rest.

Recommended books for summer by Bill Gates

Like every year, the millionaire has published a video on his personal page with reading recommendations for this summer, in which he has combined two of his summer passions: reading and barbecues.

Gates assures that he has been the first surprised to discover that the summer reading recommendations They have a common thread: the will to serve present in all of them.

The technology mogul assures that he usually chooses his next reading based on what he wants, not because of a specific topic. “When I finish a book and decide what to read next, there is rarely a logical connection between the two. “I could get to the end of a history book about the Civil War and then pick up a science fiction novel set in the distant future,” says Gates.

These are the books recommended by Bill Gates for the summer:

  • ‘The Women’ by Kristin Hannah. It tells the story of a U.S. Army nurse in Vietnam that Gates called a “beautifully written tribute to a group of veterans who deserve more appreciation for the incredible sacrifices they made.” Hannah is the author of another best-seller that was brought to the screen by Netflix: ‘The Dance of the Fireflies’.
  • ‘Infectious Generosity: The Ultimate Idea Worth Spreading’ by Chris Anderson. Bill Gates calls this book very timely and inspiring about philanthropy in the digital age. The author explains how communications technology creates an opportunity and responsibility for philanthropy, and argues that although the ease of giving has increased, overall giving levels have not kept pace. Gates assures that “his idealism is contagious and, with advances in artificial intelligence, we can further harness the technological potential to boost generosity.”
  • ‘Brave New Words: How AI Will Revolutionize Education (and Why That’s a Good Thing)’ by Salman Khan. The author argues that AI will radically improve both student outcomes and teacher experiences, and help ensure that everyone has access to a world-class education. He is well aware that innovation has only had a marginal impact in the classroom so far, but he makes a compelling argument that with AI the scenario will be different. Gates shares a great friendship with the author of the book as a result of his work at the head of the Khan Academy. “No one has a sharper vision for the future of education than Sal, and I cannot recommend Brave New Words enough”.
  • ‘How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen’ by David Brooks. Gates highlights that with Brooks’ book he has learned conversational and social skills, which he found very useful. The book explains communication techniques such as active listening and asking open-ended questions, which can transform everyday interactions and make people feel heard and valued. “It is a model for a more connected and human way of life,” says the millionaire.

In addition to the four books to read this summer, Bill Gates recommended a series that, according to him, has hooked him. This is Slow Horses from Apple TV+. A three-season series that features Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas among the cast.

According to Gates, the series has a complex script full of intrigue in the purest style of John le Carré, interwoven by well-developed characters.
