Those who come to Zuviría 4852 will be able to drop a book and choose any other that is in the library. The day will begin at 2 p.m.

Why is Book Day commemorated? The commemoration began in 1908. The National Council of Women awarded the prizes for its literary contest that day and established an annual celebration. In 1924, that Council managed to get President Marcelo T. de Alvear to declare the date as a “Book Festival.”

Then, in 1941, at the request of a resolution from the Ministry of Education, the name was changed to “Book Day”, which remains until today.

In June, Writer’s Day is also celebrated, in tribute to the first president of the Argentine Society of Writers, Leopoldo Lugones, who was born on the 13th of this month in 1874.
