One of Stephen King’s last books will become a series starring a renowned Narnia actor

Over the decades, adaptations of the novels by Stephen King have generated a profound cultural impact, from classics like The glow and Carrie to more recent productions such as Item and Doctor Sleep. In this context, the upcoming adaptation of one of his works promises to continue this tradition, taking the public once again to the fascinating universe created by the master of contemporary suspense.

Since the rise of cinema and television, the works of Stephen King They have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration. His stories, full of suspense, terror and humanity, have captivated millions of readers around the world and, consequently, have found a prominent place on the big and small screen. This time, it will be his 2019 novel, The Institutewhich will be taken as the basis for a miniseries for MGM+.

On the title page, this new novel is described as follows: “as psychically terrifying as Fire Eyes and with the spectacular childish power of ItemThe Institute is a heartbreaking Stephen King story about good and evil in a world where the good guys don’t always win.

Specific, The Institute centers around a group of children with special psychic abilities who are kidnapped and held in a mysterious institute, where they are subjected to cruel and sinister experiments. As the children discover the extent of their powers and band together to try to escape, they confront the dark secrets of the place and a conspiracy that threatens their lives and the future of humanity.

It is a tpsychological thriller with the characteristic style of Kingwhich explores themes such as abuse of power, manipulation, and resistance to oppression.

According to Deadline, production on the series will begin later this year, with filming taking place in Nova Scotia, Canada, under the direction of Jack Bender, who previously had experience with the work of King through the hit series Mr. Mercedesas well as being executive producer of Under The Dome from CBS and The Outsider from HBO. The show also features Benjamin Cavell as a writer, who already worked on the adaptation of The Standalso from King.

As for the cast, there are already two names confirmed: on the one hand there is the actress Mary-Louise Parker who will play the head of the Institute, who is convinced that the work they do is for the common good. She is accompanied by the actor Ben Barnesknown for his work in Narnia and recently as the antagonist of the Netflix series Shadow and Bone. Barnes will play former police officer Tim Jamieson.

“I am delighted and excited at the prospect of The Institute, with its high-intensity suspense, being filmed as a series. The Institute follows another MGM+ series based on King’s literary work, Chapelwaite, starring Adrian Brody. There is still no estimated release date but the project is surely moving forward. The miniseries will comprise 8 chapters.
