Ricardo Jaramillo Mejía, who had been serving as vice president of Business Development and Finance at Grupo Sura, was announced as president of the financial holding company in charge.

Jaramillo replaces Gonzalo Alberto Pérez, who had resigned on August 31, until the board makes a substantive decision.

Since then, Sura activated the succession plans established for the company’s senior management, and the board of directors advanced the evaluation process of the candidates for the presidency of the financial holding company, whose decision has just been announced.

In this process, among other matters, the profile and skills of the different candidates were taken into account, although the list was not known, in order to ensure that the appointee adjusted to the business culture of Grupo Sura, and that their qualities allow him to continue leading the sustainable development of the company.

The replacement coincides with the final stage of the agreements signed in the middle of the previous year between the groups Sura, Argos and Nutresa with the Gilinski family and Emirati investors from IHC, aimed at the latter two controlling Nutresa, which occurred in the first February days.

Jaramillo now heads a company with $93.5 billion in assets and is the main shareholder of Bancolombia, where he owns 46.11% of the shares. In 2023, Grupo Sura recorded revenues of $35.5 billion and earned $1.9 billion.

The new president of Sura is a civil engineer from the Antioquia School of Engineering, MBA with an emphasis in Finance from Boston University Graduate School of Management.

He has served as president, vice president of Corporate Finance and project manager of Bancolombia Investment Banking, among other positions.

Since April 2016, he has held the position of Vice President of Business Development and Finance of Grupo Sura, whose main functions have been to define strategies and policies that allow monitoring of the company’s financial management and to provide valid and reliable information on the financial management in a timely manner. performance of operations for decision making, in order to meet strategic objectives.

In addition, he has been a member of the boards of directors of Suramericana, Sura Asset Management, Arus, Grupo Argos, Renting Colombia, as well as the boards of directors of the Medellín Cultural Association, the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Superior Council of the EIA University.

The Sura Group, through its subsidiaries, has a presence in ten countries in Latin America and participates in strategic sectors of the economy such as insurance, pensions, savings and investment, and asset management. In addition, it is a company listed on the Colombian Stock Exchange (BVC), and in its income statement it consolidates 76 companies in which it has a stake.

During the last 3 years in which Pérez served as president of Sura, his leadership stood out to jointly build a new strategic direction with the management team and employees, defining the company as an investment manager, with two main objectives: obtain a return higher than the cost of capital for shareholders and contribute to the harmonious development of the societies in which the conglomerate companies are present.
