He Department of Homeland Security (DHS) USA announced on Friday the creation of a board of directors composed of the executive directors of OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet –parent company of Google- and Nvidiathat will advise the Government on the role of the Artificial intelligence in critical infrastructures.

The board will develop recommendations for the sector transportthe operators of pipelines and electrical networksservice providers Internet and others for “prevent and prepare for complications related to Artificial Intelligence in critical services that affect national or economic security, public health or security.”

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters that the junta would help ensure the secure deployment of AI technology and how to deal with the threats raised by it to vital services such as energy, public services, transportation, defense, information technology, food and agriculture, and financial services.

“It is not a board that will focus on theory, but on practical solutions for the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the daily life of our nation,” continued Mayorkas. “It was very important to include the main developers of this extraordinarily powerful tool on the board,” he emphasized when announcing the members.

The 22-member board includes technology leaders Sam AltmanCEO of OpenAI; Dario AmodeiCEO of Anthropic; Jensen HuangCEO of Nvidia NVDA.O; Arvind KrishnaCEO of IBM IBM.N; Shantanu NarayenCEO of Adobe ADBE.O; Satya NadellaCEO of Microsoft MSFT.O; Sundar PichaiCEO of Alphabet GOOGL.O; Chuck RobbinsCEO of Cisco CSCO.O; Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services AMZN.O; and Lisa SueCEO of Advanced Micro Devices AMD.O.

They are also part of the council Ed BastianCEO of Delta Air Lines DAL.N; Vicki HollubCEO of Occidental Petroleum OXY.N and Kathy WardenCEO of Northrop Grumman NOC.N, as well as the Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore; the Mayor of Seattle, Bruce Harrelland the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The board will meet for the first time next month and has future quarterly meetings planned.

The DHS warned in its 2024 threat assessment that AI-assisted tools have “the potential to enable larger scale, faster, more efficient and evasive cyberattacksagainst targets such as oil pipelines, railroads and other critical infrastructure in the United States.”
