It has 3 engines and exceeds 2,500 km

Without leaving aside diesel and betting heavily on an electric traction system, the MAZ-X becomes the hybrid truck with the greatest autonomy.

He hybrid truck with greater autonomy developed so far does not belong to a well-known manufacturer, such as Scania, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz or MAN. And the most curious thing of all is that it does not respond to a European brand either, much less a North American one.

This very special model was presented earlier this year by the brand Belarusian MAZowner of exotic heavy and extra-heavy trucks – some of them out of the ordinary due to their size and design – which began concept field testing MAZ-X.

This extravagant truck, which draws much attention due to its cabin design that is far from conventional, both in the line presented by its exterior and the entire cabin, is presented as the hybrid truck with greater autonomy capable of exceeding up to three times the range of a conventional model powered solely by diesel.

MAZ-X, the hybrid truck with the greatest autonomy so far

According to the manufacturer MAZ, the new concept of its heavy duty truck that makes it the hybrid truck with the greatest autonomy uses a Weichai diesel engine WP7.300E51 manufactured in China, with a displacement of 7.3 liters and a maximum power that reaches 300 horses.

This nominal power is sent to an electric generatorin charge of feeding a 100 kWh battery packso that these accumulators send the energy to those in charge of propelling this modern and otherwise striking unit.

And on the rear axle, the only one with traction, they are mounted two electric motors with a total power of 360 kW (490 HP), which also work with the Kers system, which recovers braking energy to recharge the batteries.

With these three engines and an advanced stored energy system, the most curious thing about the hybrid truck with greater autonomy is that the diesel engine is not connected to the traction systemsince it works only as a power generator and does not have a conventional gearbox.

Thanks to the use of two fuel tanks with a total capacity of 820 liters, the MAZ-X can travel up to 3,000 kilometers without the need to refuelwith an average of 3.65 km/l, even with a full load, which definitely makes it the hybrid truck with the greatest autonomy so far.

In all-electric mode, using only the energy stored in the batteries, the truck only can travel 25 kilometersbut it is ideal for silent starts or for crossing densely populated areas, something that is highly sought after in means of transportation in first world countries.

In addition to MAZ, the companies Unimo and AMB Engenharia, both from Belarus, participated in the development of the truck, two representatives of technological and design modernization.

That is why the line is very original and is responsible for significantly reduce aerodynamic drag. As an element to highlight, the MAZ-X has a Access door only on the right side, which opens pantographically, as occurs with some city buses, allowing easier and safer entry.

The evolution of the interior of the cabin, carried out by Unimo, provides maximum ergonomics to the trucker’s daily life, with a folding bed, which becomes a sofa with a dining table, a sink instead of a glove compartment and a good amount of space for storage.

In turn, the hybrid truck with greater autonomy that adds to the Shacman X6000 590 LNG It has a large glass surface, which reduces blind spots, in addition to cameras and screens instead of traditional rearview mirrors. And although this heavy is still a concept, it shows the path that MAZ will follow in the future development of trucks where diesel remains in force.
