Boeing’s world’s largest plant goes into “panic mode”

Boeing planes have been experiencing failures for months. At the beginning of the year, a Boeing 737 Max operated by Alaska Airlines lost the emergency door when it overturned at 4,900 meters above sea level, and another, a 747 model, had to make an emergency landing in Miami because part of the fuselage was on fire. Now, Boeing’s largest factory is in “panic mode,” according to what workers and unions tell the British media The Guardian.

According to this media, factory workers are being pressured not to mention the “quality” of the airplanes. The main factory for these aircraft is located in Everett (Washington, USA), where the Boeing 747 and 767 are built and the 787 Dreamliner is repaired.

The mechanics themselves assure that the factory is “full” of Boeing 787s waiting to be repaired. Many of those aircraft fly to Everett from South Carolina. “There is no way on God’s green earth I would want to be a pilot in South Carolina, taking those from South Carolina to here.”“, a mechanic tells the aforementioned media on condition of anonymity.

After several cases in which Boeings have failed, the United States has decided to carry out an exhaustive check on these aircraft. Specifically, since on January 5, a panel detached from a Boeing 737 MAX in mid-flight, it caused the United States to implement forceful measures to monitor the manufacturer’s production and improve its safety and quality control.

As reported in a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was in charge of designing a “aggressive” supervision in which initial measures stood out such as the immediate grounding of 171 737 MAX aircraft operated by US airlines or in North American territory and the halting of the expansion of production of this type of model.

The FAA found problems in controlling the manufacturing process, handling and storage of Boeing parts and products. In addition, the entity ordered an increase in the presence of on-site safety inspectors at the Boeing facilities in Renton (Washington) and its supplier Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita (Kansas). The FAA investigation remains “ongoing.”
