Canon clients and collaborators have visited the center that the company operates in Giessen, Germany, and which is one of the Japanese multinational’s benchmarks within its circular business model throughout the world. During the visit, attendees had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the activity that Canon carries out here and participated in a guided tour of the facilities.

In this center, the only one of its kind that the company operates in Europe, Canon carries out the remanufacturing process of the equipment that makes up its imageRUNNER ADVANCE ES and ES+ range of remanufactured products. In the case of Spain, these multifunction remanufactured devices have been very successful, with more than 17,000 units distributed in the last 10 years. In fact, in 2023, there was a 29% increase in sales of these devices, exceeding the ambitious forecasts made by 6% and placing the sales figure as one of the 3 best in the last decade.

Real application of a circular business model

The remanufacturing process that Canon develops in this Giessen center represents the real application of its circular business model, since these equipment has at least 90% of its weight made up of reused parts of other products that have already completed their useful life and that are used again in these new equipment. In this way, the consumption of resources and raw materials is significantly reduced, as well as the emissions derived from the manufacturing processes of new products.

These remanufactured products offer the same features as new equipment throughout their useful life and have all the innovations and technological possibilities that also characterize the rest of Canon equipment in terms of ease of use, productivity, connectivity and safety. .

A clear strategy to promote sustainability

In line with its ‘Kyosei’ philosophy, which means ‘living and working together for the common good’, Canon places great importance on reducing its environmental impact and has a clear global strategy to boost its sustainability that acts on dthe main axes. On the one hand, the reduction of CO2 emissions and, on the other, the promotion of the circular economy.

In this sense, Canon is going to continue betting on R&D&i to continue developing equipment with a reduced environmental impact, while at the same time it is going to continue increasing its consumption of energy from renewable sources, as well as launching other actions aimed at to promote its sustainability within the framework of its global operation. Furthermore, in terms of circular economy, along with developments such as these remanufactured equipment, the company has also launched cartridge recycling programs, toner or reducing the use of plastics.

The participants in the visit were able to learn about all these actions from the hand of María Jesús Arroyo, Canon Office Product Manager Spain who accompanied them during the tour and explained all the details of the range of remanufactured products.

“For us it has been a real pleasure to have been able to accompany several of our clients and collaborators on this tour of our center in Giessen and to have been able to show them, in first person, how we promote sustainability and the circular economy through our cutting-edge production processes. remanufacturing. We hope that this experience has been enriching for everyone and that it allows us to continue exploring new ways of working together in the future to achieve a greener world,” he explained. Stream.
