Without a doubt this has not been an easy year for WOM –currently covered by Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Law in the United States – has also had an impact on its subscriber base.

According to statistics from the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications, the company has lost more than 57 thousand clients in the first four months of 2024, figure that doubles the more than 21 thousand people who decided to abandon WOM postpaid plans in the same period last year.

According to the Subtel report, the balance of net ports of the company in the period January-April of this year is the result of the reception of more than 238 thousand new users who were surpassed by the more than 295 thousand people who decided to change of operator.

According to figures from Subtel, the telecommunications company had its worst performance last Aprila period in which the cancellation of more than 29 thousand clients in their postpaid plans was evident.

According to historical data from the Portability Report prepared by the undersecretary, this monthly balance is the second worst in the history of the company in terms of net loss of clients, only behind the more than 34 thousand clients that WOM lost in January 2021.

It is worth remembering that on April 1, the company filed for Chapter 11 and began a reorganization process in the Court of Delaware, USA.

The decrease in clients registered in the fourth month of this year was preceded by the departure of 15 thousand clients in March, a period in which the company’s financial crisis was already clearly evident.

Company analysis

Regarding the portability data as of April of this year, Lucas Airaudo, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of WOM Chile, pointed out that – “we understand that the April results are surprising for the industry, since WOM has been the company with the highest growth and innovation since it began operations in 2015.”

However, despite the negative figures, the executive stated that “the impact is not significant, as it represents less than 0.01% of our total base Of customers”.

Additionally, Airaudo indicated that the company sees an improving trend in terms of customers during the months of May and June.
