In 2023, the Damm brewing group achieved a turnover of 2,061 million euros, 10% more than in the previous year, and a gross operating result (ebitda) of 300 million, 24.6% more. These are the results announced at the company’s general meeting of shareholders, which was held this Monday at the Antigua Fábrica Estrella Damm and reflect the achievement, two years ahead of schedule, of the turnover objective set by the company in the strategic plan 2022-2025.
During the year 2023, the company highlights having demonstrated “a high capacity for resilience in the face of a challenging environment marked by the increase in the prices of energy, materials and raw materials.” Despite this, Damm managed to grow thanks to the demand for its products in the markets and channels in which it operates. The progress of the activity and the control of costs to make its entire value chain more efficient have allowed the company to obtain a net profit of 130 million, 28.2% more than in the previous year and, in addition, to increase its workforce. up to 5,765 people.
The executive president of Damm, Demetrio Carceller Arce, has highlighted the current strength of the group as a starting point to continue growing and has been optimistic regarding the results of the current year: “The strength of the internal demand for our products, the positive outlook for tourism, and the international development of our distribution, make us confident that 2024 will also be a year of growth for Damm.”
During the event, the new composition of the board of directors was also approved, which, with the departure of Raimundo Baroja and Ramón Armadás, has gone from seven to five members. Furthermore, Demetrio Carceller himself will change the way in which he is represented in the highest governing body, becoming a representative director of the company Beachlake Inversiones Mobiliarias, of which he is its sole administrator.
The brewery’s results also reflect how the evolution of the company’s international business maintains its positive trend. Damm has a staff of more than 500 people dedicated exclusively to the company’s international activities. In addition, Damm currently already has two factories outside Spain, one in Santárem (Portugal) and another in Bedford (United Kingdom).
In addition, Damm brands are present in more than 130 countries and are exported under their own brand to 94, positioning, according to the company, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Portugal and China as the main international markets.
Commitment to innovation and the environment
After having “consolidated a high degree of digital maturity in 2023,” Damm took another step to continue enhancing its growth and competitiveness through innovation with the acquisition of 60% of the company Nennisiwok, specialized in artificial intelligence. In this way, the brewery will be able to accelerate some of the internal projects aimed at applying AI tools in the production and marketing of beers, as well as in other projects that improve the company’s efficiency.
On the other hand, during the last year the company continued to promote those industrial investments that prioritize efficiency, productivity and minimizing the environmental impact of its operations. In 2023, Damm has continued to expand its energy self-consumption capacity by installing solar panels through a project that has involved an investment of more than 3.5 million euros. The group states that, after doubling the surface area of its photovoltaic park, reaching an area of 59,000 square meters, it is positioned as the brewery with the largest extension of panels in the Iberian Peninsula. Furthermore, since 2014, the organization guarantees that 100% of the electrical energy used has a green origin certificate.
