The Golf R 1 and the Golf R Estate 2 are on the starting line: Volkswagen presents the two new high-end Golf models for the world premiere. They come with optimized driving dynamics, exclusive standard equipment and a power of 245 kW (333 HP). The new maximum power has increased by 10 kW (13 HP) compared to the predecessor models. The top speed of 250 km/h can be increased by a further 20 km/h to 270 km/h with the optional R-Performance package. This makes these two versions of the Golf R the fastest Volkswagen production models in the world, along with the Arteon R Shooting Brake 5 . Pre-sale will begin on July 3 in Germany, where the Golf R will be available from €53,795 3 and from €55,065 3 as a family (Golf R Estate). An additional option: the Golf R Black Edition, an exclusive all-black model available from €58,440 3 .

All UK prices and specifications will be confirmed soon.

Sharper design, expanded range of R-specific equipment. The new R models are based on the eighth generation of the Golf, which received a major update this year. The dynamics are reflected in the redesigned front end with its LED Plus headlights, an illuminated VW badge and air curtains in the bumper, as well as the new LED rear light clusters. New 19-inch “Warmenau” forged wheels are optionally available. They have an attractive, clean design, a weight of just eight kilograms per wheel and efficient brake cooling, which is particularly advantageous when driving on racetracks.

The infotainment system’s hardware and software have also been revamped and feature the largest screen (diagonal: 32.8 cm/10.9 inches) offered by Volkswagen. Operation has also been significantly improved thanks to new graphics and a new menu structure for the touch screen. Also newly developed are illuminated touch sliders for automatic climate and volume control, as well as the IDA voice assistant, which accesses the AI-based software “ChatGPT” to answer questions. In addition, the responsiveness of the touch steering wheel has been optimized. Golf R models are equipped as standard with the improved Digital Cockpit Pro (display diagonal: 26 cm). In addition to the classic views available on other models in the product line, the Golf R’s Digital Cockpit Pro offers an improved Sport Skin, featuring a round central tachometer with an R-specific design, as well as R-View with an rpm display horizontal.

A one-of-a-kind interior. The interior of the Golf R models is designed ergonomically adapted to the driver and exclusively refined in the “R” style. The driver and front passenger sit in premium sports seats with integrated head restraints. Optionally, a black nappa leather interior with carbon-look elements with blue applications on the side area and an “R logo” on the seat back will also be available. Also available as an option: interior applications in real carbon. These equipment details underline the high quality with which the exclusive overall concept of the new Golf R has been designed.

Golf R: for maximum performance. The new R models have an impressive 245 kW (333 hp) of power, which the powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine transmits to a seven-speed DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. The latter improves driving stability and agility by distributing drive power individually to the rear wheels to optimize cornering. The torque of the new models is 420 Nm. The top speed of 250 km/h can be increased by a further 20 km/h to 270 km/h with the optional R-Performance package.

R-Performance Package: more driving fun thanks to additional modes. In addition to the higher top speed, the R-Performance package offers two additional modes for motorsports enthusiasts who also drive on roads and circuits away from normal traffic: Drift and Special. The “Special” mode has been specifically adapted to the conditions of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. A larger roof spoiler, through which airflow passes, provides additional downforce. The R-Performance package for the new model also includes the GPS lap timer and G-meter, both displayed in the Digital Cockpit Pro.

Vehicle Dynamics Manager optimizes the driving experience. Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC), fitted as standard on vehicles sold in Germany, is a technology that continuously reacts to the road surface and driving situation, taking into account various elements, including steering manoeuvres, braking and acceleration. The lateral dynamic components of the DCC undercarriage are further coordinated and optimized by the Vehicle Dynamics Manager. In this way, the DCC always offers the highest level of driving comfort and optimal driving dynamics. This allows the new R models to effortlessly strike a balance between everyday driving and sportiness at all times. The Golf R Variant offers a particularly high degree of flexibility: with a maximum boot volume of 1,642 liters (with the rear seat backrests folded down), it offers generous storage space.

Exclusive Golf R Black Edition. The exclusive model, which can be ordered directly at market launch, has a sophisticated dark look: with darker VW emblems and R logos, black R brake callipers with dark R logo, black 19-inch Estoril wheels and exhaust finishers blacks. The darkened IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights are another standard feature. The R-Performance package is also available as an option for other models.

With their equipment for enhanced performance combined with expressive design, they generate worldwide excitement among Volkswagen fans. The Golf R success story began in 2002 with the legendary Golf R32: to date, it and its four successors have sold more than 250,000 units.
