AI-powered fighting game AI Arena has set a date for the launch of its NRN token, following a play-to-airdrop campaign this spring.

Earlier this year, AI Arena allowed 8,000 users to play its fighting game, built on Ethereum’s Layer 2 scaling network Arbitrum, while it was pre-launch for a chance to earn potential token rewards, with a campaign focused on social media influencers. Now, those rewards are almost ready to be claimed.

Those who participated will be able to claim their tokens at 7am UTC on Monday, June 24, with a quote on a centralized exchange one hour later. As of this writing, it has not yet been announced which exchange(s) the tokens will be listed on.

AI Arena is a cartoonish fighting game similar to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros., where players control their characters using artificial intelligence (AI). This is the unique hook of the game: instead of pressing buttons like in other games in the fighting genre, you are the trainer of the fighter seeking to achieve victory through extensive AI-powered training.

The final round of the ‘Gateway of the Arena’ play-to-airdrop campaign concluded in March. This competition attempted to attract players while providing token rewards for playing before the final release.

The 8,000 players who participated earned a score based on the performance of their AI fighters. Each player was also part of a team led by one of eight influencers, including YellowPanther and Wale. Depending on the team’s collective performance, players were rewarded with a potentially considerable airdrop multiplier.

The performance of your AI, you, and your team impacted the size of your airdrop rewards. Overall, AI Arena promises to airdrop 80 million NRN tokens, half to cover the play-to-airdrop campaign and the other half for “NRN Boxes,” or reward boxes tied to community participation.

In the future, AI Arena plans to release a version that will require an access pass NFTs to play. This version of the game will serve as the elite testing ground for top-level players, as the developer sees great esports potential around this unique AI-powered fight.

“Thank you to everyone who has been with us and believed in something,” AI Arena’s announcement tweet read. “NRN is gaming with AI. Believe in the path ahead.”
