The main television companies with a presence in Spain, Atresmedia and MFE, return to their appointment with the dividend. A remuneration that rewards its main shareholders: Grupo Planeta, controlled by the Lara family; and Fininvest, the Berlusconi family group, respectively.

Thus, the shareholders meeting of MFE, formerly Mediaset, has approved this week the distribution of an ordinary dividend corresponding to the year 2023 equivalent to 0.25 euros for each A and B ordinary share. In this way, the disbursement will be around 141 million of euros.

The amount is similar to that received by shareholders in recent years. In 2022 and 2023, MFE allocated just over €140 million to dividends in each of these years.

Fininvest, a Berlusconi family group, with a 48.6% stake in MFE, will receive around 69 million euros from the television company’s dividend, which will be effective at the end of July.

First it was Atresmedia’s turn, which this Thursday paid a complementary dividend of 0.24 euros per share, 9% more than the previous year. In this way, the disbursement will be 49.5 million euros. This shareholder remuneration is added to the interim dividend of 0.22 euros per share, paid last December, which represented a total disbursement of 40.5 million.

In this way, the total dividend of the Antena 3 parent company will be around 90 million euros. Planeta, with a 41.6% stake in the company, will receive around 37.5 million euros.

The outlook seems positive for both companies. Atresmedia increased profits by 42% in the first quarter, with an increase in income of 15%, with the improvement of advertising and the expansion of areas such as content production. The company anticipates more than 1,000 million in revenue for this year.

MFE, for its part, recorded a net profit of 16.8 million euros, 66.5% more. With respect to the Spanish market, where it warned of “clear signs of recovery”, gross advertising revenues increased by 8%, up to 180 million euros. The group expects an increase in its advertising revenues of more than 6% in the first half.

In this scenario, the dividend comes in an exercise of increases in the stock market of television companies, at least until now. Atresmedia, for example, has risen 26% since the beginning of the year, until it is trading at around 4.50 euros. The titles reached an annual maximum of 5.42 euros on June 4, but, since then, they have corrected, losing more than 7% in the last month. The market capitalization is around 1,030 million euros.

MFE, for its part, has seen its type B shares appreciate by just over 20% since the beginning of the year, to be listed at around four euros. In line with Atresmedia, the titles have corrected in the last month, after reaching an annual maximum of 4.43 euros at the beginning of June. The company has a stock market capitalization of more than 1,950 million euros.

The German ProsiebenSat.1, 29.79% owned by MFE, has risen 21% this year, to 6.70 euros per share, which gives the company a market capitalization of 1,562 million euros.
