MADRID, June 24 (Portaltic/EP) –

A live broadcast on Youtube in which Elon Musk appeared promoting fraudulent cryptocurrency investments and for which voice ‘deepfake’ was used, it managed to gather up to 30,000 viewers at a specific point in its five-hour duration.

Voice manipulation using the deep manipulation technique or ‘deepfake’ consists of cloning someone’s voice using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning technology to pass off a message that is not real as real.

A channel allegedly belonging to the Tesla brand – with an Official Artist Channel verification badge included – broadcast a live video in which Elon Musk appeared.

In this video, Musk encouraged viewers to visit a website and deposit cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin to participate in a draw in which the automatic return of double the amount invested was promised.

This video, which managed to gather around 30,000 viewers at one point, led it to be placed directly in the ‘Live’ recommendations section of the platform, as Engadget discovered.

This medium points out, however, that “it cannot be ruled out” the possibility that some of the viewers of this content were ‘bots’ or that the channel had been ‘hacked’. After contacting Google and reporting what happened, both the channel and the video disappeared.

It is worth remembering that this scam is not an isolated event, since a few days ago Avast Threat Labs warned of the hijacking of more than 35 YouTube channels in which more ‘fake’ videos of Elon Musk promoting this type of scam were disseminated. fraudulent transactions.
