“We have not found any businessman who has a negative vision of the future”

During the opening of the LR forum “Multilatinas 2.0, The Thousand Who Bill the Most”, The Superintendent of Companies, Billy Escobar, recognized the country’s companies for their commitment to building social fabric, generating wealth and saving employment.. “That is reflected in the figures, that is why we wanted to do a different analysis and include a sustainability component,” he said about the entity’s new report.

Escobar stated that there was a delay in the delivery of the figures because the entity wanted to get out of the traditional format to provide a “more comprehensive” analysis.which takes into account the variables, difficulties and visions of the business world.

“We wanted to generate input for reading by experts, public officials, companies from all sectors, since We understood that a joint commitment will allow us to consolidate the Colombian business system”, he assured.

The Superintendent said that the organizations continue to grow and there is an increase in investment, as well as various profits and bets. “There are sectors that have been identified as having difficulties based on exogenous, historical and legislative reasons. The price of the dollar has also had an influence, specifically in the hydrocarbon sector,” he said.

He added that the results continue to be positive and that Supersociedades has reached all the municipalities of the country and has had a dialogue with businessmen.so no leader in the sector “has a negative vision for the future.” Regarding the sustainability characteristics of the companies, the official explained that Colombia is a power in terms of natural resources, human beings and the environment. This slogan is a reflection of business activities, as seen in the agricultural sector. This sector, despite the global crisis, has strengthened. “Countries have understood the fundamental role that agriculture plays for the economy of nations. As a country we have to turn to that great value. We are a powerhouse in natural resources. The agricultural sector is incipient, but this gives us the opportunity to grow widely“said the official.

The entity’s analysis showed that companies do not seek to generate profits and sustainabilitysince the ultimate goal of companies is to generate profits, but also contribute to the human and social component.

“Companies are not only about generating wealth and that is why the concept of sustainability does not only speak about human beings, but about citizens. These figures must identify these components to know where we are failing to generate public policies to be better,” Escobar said.

He said that companies are not only in the productive system for the generation of wealth, but for a concept of sustainabilitysince these are elements as broad as human beings and citizens.

The thousand greatest

Escobar’s speech during the forum came after the publication of the Superintendence of Companies on the Thousand Largest Companies in Colombia, with a cut-off date of 2023. The official stressed that “this report records the behavior of the profits sector at the end of 2023, with profits in all macrosectors, as well as what was noted for the years 2022 and 2021.”

Among the important indicators that the report has are the assets, liabilities, equity and comprehensive income statement and financial ratios of the organizations.

Likewise, the Mines and Hydrocarbons macrosector was significantly affected, according to the official, due to the fall in the price of a barrel of oil, which was 17% lower than what was recorded in 2022. There was also an effect of revaluation, which impacted the companies’ income and equity. “However, the gains were maintained in said macro-sector,” Escobar said.

It is important to remember that the Biggest Thousand had total revenues of $1.313 billion. The report also indicated that the 50 largest companies account for 44% of revenues, a figure equivalent to $572 billion.
