José Madero confesses the truth behind “I would like not to think” by Pxndx (PXNDX)

The singer-songwriter, in a surprising way, said that the song was inspired by the attack against the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. “When the Twin Towers fell I felt something very strange. I was 21 years old and although I am not American, I am a human being,” he revealed.

The singer recalled how that event changed his perspective and prompted him to express his feelings through music.

“I asked myself, ‘Are there really people willing to get on a plane, believe themselves to be a false God, and kill thousands of people in the name of a figure they’ve never seen?’ The next day, I ended up composing that song,” he narrated.

September 11, 2001 was an atypical day in Monterrey due to intense rain that canceled classes at Tec de Monterrey, where Madero was studying. “Suddenly, chaos starts in New York, everyone talking on the phone,” he recalled of experiencing the tragedy from his hometown.

That same day, he met with friends to watch a game of the Champions League and later, he went to the cinema to see “Original Sin,” starring Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie. This outing had an additional purpose, since before the film they screened a short called “Inspiration,” which included the song “Doll” by Pxndx.

The artist’s story highlights how, the day after the attack, he channeled his emotions to create “I would like not to think.” He clarified that the song is not directly about the fall of the towers or the terrorist attack, but about the deep feeling that that event caused in him.

“It’s about the feeling I had. It’s not about the fall of the towers or the terrorist attack, but the feeling I had of ‘Pin… dumb ass…’.”
