The world of Hollywood is not as beautiful as it seems from the outside, especially for the women who have had to fight for gender equality, the freedom to reject roles and the opportunity to stay active in the industry despite the physical changes that are so criticized.

In a round table organized by ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, some of the most important actresses in the United States met to talk about their challenges and experiences in the film industry. Among them were Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Anna Sawai and Sofia Vergara.

During the conversation, various topics were discussed about the current state of actresses in Hollywood. Sofia Vergara was particularly critical and shared her opinion: “I feel very uncomfortable here because This is my favorite group of actresses and I realize I don’t know anything about acting.”. This confession surprised his colleagues, to which Vergara explained that he had never attended acting classes: “It’s not bad, it’s simply a reality. “I was on ‘Modern Family’ for 11 years, but in a way I was almost playing myself.”

Vergara also spoke about your accent, a topic that has been a barrier in his career. She expressed her frustration at trying to change him without success: “I tried at the beginning of my career. When I moved to Los Angeles, I said to myself: ‘I can’t believe that Penélope Cruz or Salma Hayek don’t change their accent, they would have many more opportunities. I’m going to do it’. So, I spent a lot of money and time with people teaching me, and it was a f***ing waste.”. Despite his efforts, Vergara has learned to accept and work with his unique accent.

As for their future plansVergara showed her interest in continuing in comedy, but leaving behind her character of Gloria in ‘Modern Family’: “Comedy, of course, which I love. I don’t want to be Gloria again, but I can’t get rid of this accent, no matter what.”. The conversation highlighted not only the unique challenges actresses face in Hollywood, but also their resilience and determination to move forward in an industry that often presents significant obstacles.
