Matt Fiddes, former bodyguard and confidant of Michael Jackson, has shared unpublished aspects of the love life of the late ‘King of Pop’ in a recent interview.
According to Fiddes, “Michael was a real womanizer, but his record company repressed him to prevent him from showing interest in women”fearing that this would harm his career and alienate his female fans.
Fiddes explained that extreme measures were taken to keep Jackson’s love affairs hidden. “We tried very hard to keep his girlfriends and wives from being visible to the public.. Motown brainwashed him not to be seen with a woman, because that could cause his female fan base to decrease,” she commented. This pressure affected Jackson deeply, who began to open up more about his personal life towards the end of his career.
The former bodyguard also pointed out that this opening led to the unfortunate decision to work with Martin Bashir on the documentary ‘Living With Michael Jackson’. “This project was expected to help him, but it only brought up his problems with women“said Fiddes.
He mentioned one scene in particular in which Jackson responded warmly to his fans, saying: “I will give you more than a hug,” but Bashir’s comments distorted these moments to fit the show’s narrative.
Likewise, Fiddes suggested that the child abuse accusations against Jackson could have been for financial purposes. “He was interested in women. If you want to destroy someone, accusing them of child abuse, murder or rape are the ways to do it.. And once accused of that, your career is over. Michael never recovered from those accusations,” he insisted.
According to Fiddes, JAckson had known marriages to Lisa Marie Presley and Debbie Rowe, and a brief romance with Whitney Houston in 1991. “Whitney almost moved to Michael’s ranch and they had a romance like any other young couple. But Michael always hoped their relationship would go further, and “I dreamed of marrying her,” revealed.
