The Cuban singer Emilio Frias responded to questions about his friendship with the musician Alexander Abreuwho is accused of being a defender of the Havana regime.
“That’s simple and I believe that no one can judge me for that. I am not nor was I a friend of the Crab, nor was I a friend of a colonel, nor was I a friend of someone who hit people. “I am a friend of an artist,” defended the director of the group El Niño y La Verdad, during an interview on the YouTube show. The Bafletazo.
El Niño made an analogy with the parties in the United States, to express that there can be different thoughts and friendship can be maintained above those political experts.
“The majority of Cuban artists who have fallen into the game of playing along with the dictatorship, excuse the redundancy, are not with them,” he assured.
Frías confessed that if he ever found out that Alexander signed a letter in which he supported the imprisonment of someone, he would not look at it anymore..
“I have never talked about politics with him. I call him and say: ‘What the hell, my black? How are you?’ He came to the United States and said to me: ‘Where are you? Lets meet?’ And I posted the photo. “I’m not hiding,” Frías added to his response.
Last April, the two artists met in the United States after two years without seeing each other. This meeting was immortalized with a photo of both on a yacht in Miami Bay.
“He asked me: ‘Can we take a photo?’, and I said: ‘Do I know what you’re talking to me about?’ Do you forget who I am?’, I have nothing to hide and that is what creates a little uncertainty for people and is what gives me the strength to continue being a truth, in the middle of so many lies,” said the singer about the memory of that meeting.
Regarding the behavior of artists in Cuba, his understanding was that many practice a double personality.
“When you have your thing there, you say, why am I going to get into trouble. That has been the thought of all Cubans all their lives, gentleman,” he asserted.
Finally, on this question, Emilio Frías concluded that: “Alexander Abreu is my friend, I don’t know if I am his friend. I admire him as a trumpeter, like Havana de Primera, which is the largest popular music group there is.. If he is in favor of communism, I do not believe it and I tell you from here, I do not believe it, but that is my thinking, if he is in favor of that, he knows that he is wrong.
