The Western movie saga for which Kevin Costner has mortgaged his house

‘Horizon: An American Saga’ opens in theaters this week, and the actor has had a hard time raising the $100 million budget

With the astronomical figures that the big Hollywood studios manage every day, it is surprising to discover that it has cost so much to endorse Kevin Costner’s new project. The actor and director premieres ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ this week, for which he has put money from his own pocket.

“I don’t need four houses”

Despite his cachet as an actor, Kevin Costner is having a hard time finding financing for his new project: an ambitious western tetralogy titled ‘Horizon: An American Saga’, which It has already filmed its first two parts and now he is in the process of filming the third.

The first part of this saga has cost 100 million dollarsof which Costner has put 38. The filmmaker had to mortgage his house in Santa Barbara to be able to make it happen and this is what he explained when the film was presented at the last Cannes Festival:

“I don’t need four houses. I’m going to risk them to make my films. I want to leave them to my children, but they will have to live their own lives. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for people to believe in the film I wanted to make (…) I’m trying to make the third one. I’ve knocked on the doors of all the yachts in Cannes looking for help.”

In all, Costner has disbursed 98 million dollars of its own account to finance the first three deliveries of the franchise and plans to empty its coffers even more for the fourth. It is not surprising that it has turned out to be so expensive, since it is a project of megalithic proportions.

He ‘Chapter 1’ premieres on June 28 in theaters, lasts three hours and stars Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone. It tells 15 years of history of a western settlement before and after the Civil War. We won’t have to wait long, as the ‘Chapter 2’ on August 30 on billboard.
