“Today we have the opportunity to do something that should have been done 60 years ago. There is no other person or place in the city of Los Angeles as iconic as Marilyn Monroe and her home in Brentwood,” Indian Traci Parkmember of the Los Angeles City Council and promoter of the motion to protect the Monroe mansion.

Park secured a unanimous vote from all 12 councilors to add Monroe’s only Spanish Colonial-style home to the list of properties considered historically significant.

“Some of the most famous images ever taken of her were in that house, on those grounds and near her swimming pool. Marilyn tragically died there; she is forever linked in time and place to this home.”Park added during his speech.

This decision ends a battle for 12305 West 5th Helena Drive that began last summer, when a couple neighboring the star’s home cinema American bought the plot of his mansion to demolish it and thus expand his own land.

The millionaire couple obtained a demolition permit, but after learning of the plans, Park decided last September to begin the procedures to shield the house from Monroewhich completely paralyzed the reform.

In an attempt to block this process, the owners sued the Los Angeles City Council last May for illegal conduct. The lawsuit was dismissed this month by a judge in California.

Among their reasons for demolishing the famous Monroe property, the owners alleged that the house has already undergone modifications that distance it from its resemblance to when the actress lived there, in addition to the fact that, due to its great popularity and the massive arrival of tourists , had become a nuisance to the neighborhood.

The City Council plans to present a motion to restrict tourist buses to the affluent neighborhood of Brentwoodwhich the curious approach because of the magnetism that the protagonist of films like ‘Gentlement Prefer Blondes’ (‘Gentlemen prefer blondes’) either ‘The Prince and The Showgirl’ (‘The Prince and the Showgirl’).
