In 1998 it was released ‘The Mask of Zorro’a film that marked a turning point in the artistic careers of Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And their dedication, professionalism and level of performance conquered the public internationally and laid the foundations for both to become recognized stars with other iconic projects.

Although it is currently considered one of the best-known films of both actors, along with ‘The Legend of Zorro’very few know that some scenes were filmed in a spectacular hacienda located south of the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.

This majestic hacienda is located in none other than the Huasca de Ocampo municipality of the state of Hidalgo. The exact address is Known Address, 38 km northeast of Pachuca, continuing along Highway 105, turn right at kilometer 23. It is currently open to the public, as it is a luxurious four-star hotel.

According to the information available on the official website of the establishment, the construction of the hacienda began in 1760 and finished around 20 years later; It consists of several buildings, a church, kiosks, green areas, lakes and swimming pools.

“The chapel of the Hacienda Santa María Regla has a baroque style façade. Some other attractions are the aqueduct and the dungeon where, in other times, patients with smallpox and measles were locked up. In this ancient construction there are also labyrinths and secret tunnels that were used many years ago for the transportation of silver and gold. Several of them can be accessed with a guide,” it reads.

Spending a night in the simplest room (with double bed, telephone, dryer, full bathroom and coffee maker) costs 1,879 Mexican pesos, while the most luxurious room (king size bed, telephone, dryer, full bathroom, coffee maker, fireplace, sauna, tub and jacuzzi) exceeds 4,300 pesos.

It is also available for any type of event, from weddings to conventions.

About 80 percent of the film was shot indoors, and the production would have used the Churubusco Studios located in Mexico City. Other scenes were recorded in Playa de Guaymas, Sonora, as well as at the San Blas hacienda, which is located in López Mateos, Tlaxcala.
