Bogotá DC, May 4, 2024 (Senate Press). – After the national agreement with some EPS to become health managers became known, a series of conversations began to unblock what will be the new reform to the Colombian medical system.

“That is part of the responsibility that we have to ensure that this reform is viable and financially sustainable,” said Senator Martha Isabel Peralta (Historical Pact).

In a letter, the 8 senators who sunk the government reform expressed the 8 issues that would be a starting point, and one of them is, as a first measure, knowing how much the reform costs.

For Senator Miguel Ángel Pinto (Liberal Party), “The most important thing is that there is the possibility and interest of the parties to agree on the reform project.”

Hours before, senators close to the government withdrew the appeal to file the new reform, meanwhile, senators asked the government to establish the real figures of how much is owed and why Colombians are not well served.

“Listen to them regarding the figures that each one handles, in order to make a contrast that allows us to consolidate those figures and have a clear picture regarding the basic inputs that are required to approve a good health line,” Senator Guido Echeverri ( Independent Party).

Senator Jairo Alberto Castellanos (Independent Party) said “we have turned patients into a figure, a number, a client and that is why now they are not called hospitals but health companies, I believe that this issue must also be reviewed.” .

The truth is that if the reform is to pass, it must be filed within 15 days, for the government to declare extraordinary sessions and obtain approval at least in the seventh committee of the senate so that it can be debated later in the plenary session of the Senate.
