According to research published by the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at Concordia University in the journal Physical Activity and Nutrition, consuming cranberries can improve running speed and aerobic performance in trained runners, as it can generate rates of faster muscle reoxygenation.
The trials monitored the performance of 14 professional distance runners, who took a cranberry supplement for 28 days.

Research found that consistent supplementation produced notable improvements in performance, running speed, and muscle recovery.
The athletes ran two events on three separate visits, one of 1,500 meters and another of 400 meters. In the second test, they were given the supplement and then instructed to continue taking it for 28 days.
This particular effect is due to the fact that the fruit is rich in polyphenols, an antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals caused by strenuous exercise.
