No less than 50 young people from medicine, four from pharmacy, 12 from nursing, a psychologist and a radiophysicist have chosen to begin their years of residency this week at the León University Care Complex. All of them with desire, curiosity and expectations. They recognize themselves as lovers of their profession and arrive “with great enthusiasm” from Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, León and other parts of the Community.

New blood that brings freshness to Leonese healthcare and that translates into the incorporation of graduates aged 24 to 27, the vast majority (44 of the 68 new residents), women. The choice of the León Hospital was not accidental in any case, but rather a valued decision. Moulud, 25, from Oviedo, cannot hide that he is “very happy” because he likes the city and in choosing him he considered that the Cardiology service he joins “is very complete and has a coronary unit.” ».

At the same age, Marina de Vega Gutiérrez, chose to stay at home and in a Hospital “that I already knew from some rotations and that I really like because it is leading and has a very good atmosphere.” She will train as an anesthesiologist. One issue that residents arriving from abroad agree on is “that there is little accommodation on offer, perhaps because we all come at once,” says 27-year-old Salamanca resident Luis Álvarez. In the case of Miguel Lorenzo, a native of Pamplona, the move ahead of him was due to “they spoke very well to me about the Hospital and León.”

As a novelty, this year the Radiophysics residency opens, occupied by Asturian Sara Ruiz, 30, excited to be in charge of “the quality control of the machines that emit radiation and the personnel dosimeters.” “We are not in contact with the patients, but we are in contact with the devices that benefit them.”

From the earth it is also incorporated. Roberto Álvarez Ibán, number 286 of the almost 11,800 who passed the MIR. At 25 years old, he estimates that he “had already been away for many years and wanted to stay home.” He believes that Cardiology, where he will complete his residency, “has very good professionals and from that specialty you can help people a lot.” The manager, Alfonso Rodríguez-Hevia, welcomed them yesterday.
