SEOUL, June 12 (Yonhap) — The Professors from 40 medical schools will hold a meetingthis Wednesday, to decide whether or not to join the planned strike of community doctors, said a representative of a group of teachers.

Community doctors voted to take a day off next Tuesday, in support of the prolonged strike by trainee doctors, who have walked away from their jobs since the end of February, in protest against the Government’s medical reform.

The representative of the South Korean Medical Teachers Association told Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday that the teachers were scheduled to hold the meeting and decide on their participation in the planned strike.

Despite strong opposition from the medical community, the Government finalized, at the end of last month, the increase in the admission quota in medical schools for next year, by around 1,500 places, for the first time in 27 years. .

The Government has ordered the community of doctors to continue providing medical treatment and report to the authorities when they interrupt their activity on the day of the strike. He will issue another order for the community of doctors to return to work, if more than 30 percent of them participate in the strike.

In another separate measure, medical professors from four major hospitals affiliated with Seoul National Universityhave warned of an indefinite strike starting next Monday.

An emergency committee of professors at three hospitals affiliated with the University of Ulsan also plans to hold a meeting this Wednesday to decide whether to carry out additional strikes, including one on Tuesday next week.
