Olga Moraleda Moreno, Olga Martín Latorre and María Talavera Martínez, students from the Faculty of Medicine of Ciudad Real, received three grants corresponding to the ninth edition of the Training Scholarships for summer stays in Hospitals and Biomedical Research Centers promoted by the College of Physicians of Ciudad Real. With these scholarships, endowed with 1,500 euros each, the aim is to support their training in different medical centers during the summer period. It is sponsored by AMA, Fundación Globalcaja and Fundación Mutual Médica.

This year, Olga Moraleda will focus her project on the human part of medicine, on dealing with the patient, which is why she has decided this year to do an internship in Family Medicine. She will go to Toledo, to the Santa María de Benquerencia health center. Olga Martín, who has recognized herself as a lover of this profession since she was a child. She will do an internship in Anesthesiology at the General University Hospital of Ciudad Real, with the aim of deepening the knowledge of the medications used in anesthesia, “developing guides for users and thus calming the patient’s anxiety. “Sometimes we forget that there is a person behind it.” For her part, María Talavera will carry out her project in the Urology service of the General University Hospital of Ciudad Real and will focus on diagnostic tests, follow-up and treatment with the patient.

On the other hand, the award for the best MIR file was also awarded to the cardiologist Daniel Águila Gordo. The award, worth 2000 euros, was sponsored by Talleres Manchegos. The award winner recognized that residency is an important period in the doctor’s training, “you learn a lot and you develop as a person. During the residency, in addition to the care part, participation in conferences and a taste for research are encouraged. This also serves to begin preparing the file and the curriculum: that is why I would like to thank my Cardiology colleagues for having supported these projects.”

The president of the Ciudad Real College of Physicians, Dr. Mª Concepción Villafánez, He highlighted the dedication and effort of the scholarship recipients, who “are a source of pride for all of us.” He thanked “the teaching team of the Faculty of Medicine, whose tireless work of motivation and support is fundamental in this achievement. And, of course, to the families, whose unconditional support has been key in this journey.” On the other hand, he highlighted the excellent results that the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Castilla-La Mancha has obtained in recent specialized training tests. “Our university is among the top three with the highest percentage of candidates who achieved a MIR place. According to the most recent data from the Ministry of Health, almost half of the UCLM Medicine graduates who took the MIR were among the 27% of candidates with the best grades. These achievements reflect the level of excellence of our faculty and the commitment of our students and teachers.”

The dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Ciudad Real, Inmaculada Ballesteros, thanked the School for “always keeping the undergraduate students in mind, one of the many projects in which we collaborate.” He also appreciated their collaboration with the sponsors “because your commitment is to the patients, with your help you are making those who are going to be doctors improve.” On the other hand, he congratulated the scholarship recipients and awardees, and the families. Finally, he asked the winners to be proud of their Faculty and “to represent us as what we try to be: welcoming, familiar, empathetic, but, above all, well trained. We are small, but we also do it well. Be the doctors that patients want to see again.”

Dr. Marian Montero, a member of Medical Tutors and Teachers of the College of Physicians, told the students that she loved the projects presented because they are vocational and because they are patient-centered. “You are going to learn to see patients and treat them; Talking to patients you learn a lot. If you are clear about the focus of the profession, any specialty you choose will do well for you.” Regarding the ella MIR award, she commented that “being a good resident is not just about having a good record. Daniel not only has an exemplary record, but he is a human doctor. He transmits tranquility, he could brag, but he doesn’t brag about anything. In this case he brings together the best record with one of the best residents in all aspects.”

Miguel Ángel León, territorial director of Globalcaja, stated that they were “filled with pride to be able to collaborate in some way with such outstanding talents as the people who have received the scholarships that we have just awarded. Our entity has a very clear commitment to the College and the medical community.” He took the opportunity to congratulate the University for the excellent work they do, highlighting that, in a very short period, they have become a reference, one of the best Medical Schools in Spain. He also congratulated the families who “have known how to instill very important values ​​that allow them to function in an absolutely demanding environment such as a career of these characteristics.” Regarding Globalcaja, he highlighted that it is an entity that is very committed to the territory, that does banking by people for people, that places the person at the center.

For your part Blanca Aldereguía Prado, head of Mutual Médica Institutional Relations, highlighted that what he liked about doctors is the vocation: “There is a lot of talk about grades, but for us, as future users of healthcare, what matters to us is the vocation.” Regarding Mutual Medica, she said that it was the only mutual insurance company “of, by and for doctors. Everything we do is for doctors. In 2015 the Foundation was born to support this type of initiatives with more than half a million euros annually that we invest in different programs. This one in particular is called impulsarme because we believe in your impulse, in your continuous training, because by supporting you we support each other as a society.”

Ana Lucía Balsera García, AMA delegate in Ciudad Real congratulated the scholarship recipients and recalled their commitment to the College of Physicians with whom they collaborate on different projects. AMA was created by healthcare professionals and they are specialists in insurance tailored to healthcare professionals and their families. The AMA Foundation, in addition to these scholarships, collaborates with the award for the best solidarity mutual funder, health law and scientific award.

Finally, Javier Sánchez Garijo, commercial director of the Audi brand, stated that it was “an honor and pride to collaborate with the College and sponsor this scholarship.
