The last week of June 2024 began with good news for Chilean sports. This morning at the Parque Estadio Nacional Sports Center, the opening ceremony of the Pan American Under 20 Chess Championship was held. The activity was attended by competitors and sports authorities, among them, the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro. In the instance there was a cueca presentation, and it was the Secretary of State who gave the initial start to the competition, making “the first movement.”
“Hosting international events is a boost to sports practice in new generations. When we talk about sport we talk about safe spaces, physical health, mental health and the transmission of values such as perseverance, the spirit of improvement and resilience,” said the Secretary of State.
Likewise, he appreciated that this competition, which will take place in nine rounds until June 30, can be carried out in the renovated National Stadium Sports Park. “There are athletes here who are 16, 17 and 18 years old. And that it can be developed in these wonderful spaces in which the Pan American and Parapan American Games were held is very good for their educational process,” he said.
