He Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) will arrive at the 77th edition of the Festival of Canneswith 8 films in the Short Film Corner, a space dedicated to the sale, exhibition and distribution of short films from the Marche de Cannes. This is a special selection under the name “Mexican Fiesta! A celebration of best GIFF short films”.

The link between the GIFF and Cannes shows continuous strengthening, evidencing the importance of the collaboration between both film-loving events. This relationship has been cemented over the years, benefiting not only the organizations involved, but also the film industry in general.

The Cannes Film Festival, recognized as the most prestigious film event in the world, will take place this year May 15 to 24being a vital platform for the exhibition of international talent. The selection will include the work of talented Guanajuato filmmakers, including the winners of the Identity and Belonging documentary contest, the University Rally and short films awarded in the last edition of the GIFF.

Mexican directors and actors who will travel to Cannes: Hoze MelendezKaty Araiza, David Ortega Contreras, Ana Lucía Matildes Mosqueda, Ana Cervantes, Ricardo Daniel Loaiza Valdez and the director of the GIFF, Sarah Hoch.

The GIFF held its twenty-sixth edition in July 2023 in different cities of Guanajuato, such as: San Miguel de Allende, Irapuato and León. The festival gave prominence in its film selection to impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the artistic field.

A total of 201 films from 49 countries were exhibited; in addition to 32 premieres of American films, 53 Mexican and 37 from other countries.
