In a curious coincidence with the film he starred in several years ago, Will Smith shared what he learned about the pursuit of human happiness. During a podcast interview Full Send, The 55-year-old actor explained his perspective on life and how he focuses on finding “true joy” focusing on internal balance after knowing what he calls “the top of the cliff.”

“People talk about the bottom of the abyss, and I coined a phrase that describes a similar place, I call it the top of the cliff,” he explained. “There is no more sex that is anything more than just movement. There is no more money. There’s no more success, and it’s a fucking abyss”.

According to Smith, it is at this point that one realizes that there are no more external gratifications that can fill the internal void. Therefore, the situation pushes one to make decisions.

“So you realize that the bigger goal is to get your inner home in order, right? Without women, without drugs, without money, without anything, can you cultivate a spirit of joy with just yourself?”, reflected the celebrity. “And dealing with that is exhausting.”

Later, the hosts of the show asked him how it got to that point. “Just exhaust the joys of this world and you’re going to have a really hard night, and you’re going to be lying there alone and nothing is going to mean anything to you,” Smith explained.

“All that wishing, all that clawing, all that scratching… and then you gotta make peace with it, bro. And you realize that ecstasy is not happiness, peace is happiness, balance“concluded the actor.
