MADRID (AP) — Felipe VI commemorates his 10 years on the throne of Spain with a series of institutional events and with a new profile on social networks.

For its first publication on Instagram, the Royal House opted for a photographic carousel and a video that summarized the participation of Felipe and Queen Letizia, as well as their daughters – Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía – in the commemorative events held. on the eve at the Royal Palace, which included an official reception, musical performances and an air show.

The institution accompanied the images with the phrase “Service, commitment and duty, the three pillars of my performance as king”, followed by an icon of the Spanish flag. In just a few hours, the account exceeded 80,000 followers.

The Spanish royal family thus follows in the footsteps of other European royal houses with a presence on the Meta social network, such as that of England, which has 13.3 million followers; that of Denmark, with one million, or that of Holland, with 975,000. Until now, its only official institutional profile was in X, which premiered a month before the monarch’s proclamation.

The monarchs continued on Thursday with the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of their reign. At a visit to the Royal Palace to inaugurate a photographic exhibition that covers their years on the throne, Felipe and Letizia met a group of tourists who were visiting the imposing 18th century palace located in the center of Madrid, headquarters of the formal events of the crown, with whom they took selfies after chatting for a few moments.

Felipe VI ascended the throne in 2014 after the abdication of his father, King Emeritus Juan Carlos I, after a series of scandals that plagued the family in the last stretch of his reign. Juan Carlos moved his residence to the United Arab Emirates in 2020 following investigations into his finances, but he frequently visits Spain.
