95 points and gold medal

If there is a grape that is currently in fashion, it is undoubtedly Godello. Right now, wines made with this grape are booming, so much so that they are already being requested by type, as was the case before with Verdejo or Albariño.

Today we bring you a Galician wine that has triumphed in the recently held Decanter World Wine Awards 2024, in a blind tasting among 18,000 wines. He has achieved nothing less than a gold medal and 95 points. We are talking about O Luar do Sil Godello, from the DO Valdeorras.

O Luar do Sil Godello on lees

Made by the Pago de los Capellanes winery in the Orense municipality of Seadur, founded in 2014, this wine is produced exclusively with Godello grapes and is aged for 6 months on fine lees, with weekly stirring. This technique provides greater body and a notable flavor intensity.

O Luar do Sil Godello comes from two plots on granite soils. After manual harvesting in 15 kg boxes, the best grapes are selected in the winery. Then, it is completely destemmed and subjected to cold maceration at less than 8°C. After pressing at low pressure, it is racked to eliminate the thick lees. Fermentation is carried out with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature for 14 days in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine rests for 6 months on its fine lees before being bottled, undergoing natural clarification.

In the tasting, a greenish straw color is appreciated, with aromas of soft and stone fruits, fresh and ripe (plum and peach), pastry notes from the lees, and floral and balsamic touches. In the mouth, it is fresh, deep, balanced, complex and long.

If you want to enjoy it fully, we recommend serving it at 10°C and pairing it with white meats, risottos or white fish.
