His mother, Mónica Jáuregui, who is also a partner in the journalist’s production company and travel agency, remembers what was her son’s last and heartfelt trip, through a press release: “Claudio wanted to show the world how beautiful Patagonia is and the possibilities that existed to go on vacation there. He wanted to mobilize tourism in that area. Furthermore, his great desire was to show the people of this place, all kind and simple people that he loved very much.”

The Patagonia route You will take a tour of the entire southern highway, starting at kilometer zero, in Puerto Montt in the Los Lagos Region, and passing through its canals, rivers and fjords. You will visit these places with their abundant flora and fauna and throughout your trip you will discover varied and interesting facts about this southern area until you reach Villa O’Higgins in the Aysén Region. It will be 1,240 kilometers of a unique trip, the text details.

In relation to this, his mother remembers that her youngest son told her how amazed he came from this trip. “I remember he told me about the rivers of Hornopirén, where he rafted; also, the Tagua Tagua Park with its imposing mountains and the lagoon with ancient larch trees.”

“In addition, he told me that he was impressed with the Pumalín Park, in the Province of Palena, the story of Douglas Tompkins caught his attention and he admired the legacy that this man left,” he recalls, adding that “he told me that he had swung and I think I imagine it was on the swings in Cochamó.”

His mother and partner believes that Iturra’s love for Patagonia could have been born on a trip he made to this place at the age of 15: “Together with his older brother they traveled to the south of Chile, it was a backpacking trip, where they hitchhiked. and they slept in a tent. They toured the south for an entire summer, and I think that’s when he fell in love with this area.”

Mónica Jáuregui reveals that “for Claudio, The Patagonia route It was his iconic program, he had a very big connection with that place. This bond was so important that he ended up buying land in Villa O’Higgins and I am going to finish building it in honor of him. He told me that it was his place of rest, ‘Mom, there I disconnect, I find myself, and I love its people, they are simple, kind and loving.'”
