According to what was reported by First Edition, the poor condition of the road as a result of the rains generated despair in the community and surrounding inhabitants who require the road to be able to communicate and transport food.

State abandonment, as the inhabitants call it, has reached the point that, with the own resources of those affected, They decided to hire yellow machinery and labor to be able to manipulate it and in this way clear the road that is restricted by the fall of rock and earth.

“The communities must act on their own to allow the vehicles to pass (…) The community hired it (the machinery) from a private individual, they hired the operator and supplied the fuel to be able to provide the road and we see that the works are already underway.” “They are very advanced and at any moment they will be allowed to enter this rural area,” reported journalist Camilo Fajardo.

In the report, Fajardo maintains that the community action boards of the sector have repeatedly called on the Government of Cauca to allow them to borrow the yellow machinery and thus achieve complete clearing of the road; However, the calls were in vain.

“The community action boards of Huisitó have repeatedly asked the government to lend them the machinery owned by the department to be able to rehabilitate the road; as they say, uncover this hill and prevent landslides from continuing to fall with each rain“, he added in Fajardo’s video report, published on Sunday, March 24.

Fortunately, this landslide did not become worse, as it did on Friday, January 12, 2024, when a devastating landslide in El Chocó left more than 39 people buried. This tragedy took place on the highway that connects Quibdó with Medellín.

Among the fatalities were travelers heading from Quibdó to Medellín, coming from different municipalities of Chocó and Antioquia: Women, the elderly and children were part of the unfortunate list of victims. Three days of mourning were declared for this natural disaster.

It is worth remembering that at the time, in the words of the Attorney General of the Nation Margarita Cabello, said landslide was a tragedy foretold: “This unfortunate situation is a tragedy foretold. The Attorney General’s Office had requested information from the director of the Disaster Risk Management Unit about the actions and resources allocated to intervening on the country’s roads. Unfortunately, the response received was insufficient, it was focused more on announcements than on concrete measures.”
