It was the early morning of February 12. A man who had been arrested and had been identified as Cristian Camilo Zúñiga Herrera was in one of the cells at the Jamundí Police Station. Then, the captured person, pointing out that he was suffering from respiratory problems, was taken out of the premises and then took advantage of the opportunity to flee.
However, he was recaptured when he was hidden near a water canal, about three blocks from the station. He was taken back by five police officers who allegedly beat him and caused injuries to the point of leaving him in serious condition until he died.
“February 12, The Military and Police Criminal Prosecutor General’s Office learned of a person deprived of liberty within the Jamundí Police Station. From there, the Prosecutor’s Office organized the investigation to clarify the reasons for that death.”said the senior officer.
“I must highlight a fairly arduous criminalistic work since the Military and Police Criminal Prosecutor General’s Office had a hypothesis of the facts presented there,” said the brigadier general. “So far it was known that Cristian Camilo, while inside one of the cells, asked the guards to leave because he claimed to have a respiratory problem. However, taking advantage of that exit, he managed to escape, jumped over one of the walls and was recaptured three blocks away. hidden in a pipe.”
He pointed out, in turn, that this April 26 the hearings will be held to legalize the capture and bring charges with a request for a security measure against the four captured police officers.
They must respond to the alleged crimes of disobedience, ideological falsehood in a public document, abandonment of position and embezzlement by use. In relation to the possible homicide of the detainee, “given the circumstances, the Prosecutor’s Office sends the process to the Attorney General’s Office.”
