On the opposition side, the senator of the Democratic Center, María Fernanda Cabal, spoke out, stating that the president’s decision “does not represent Colombians” and therefore reiterated her support for the Argentine president.

“Long live freedom! Gustavo’s decision does not represent Colombians. We are with you Milei. “We will also defeat caste here!” said the senator.

Another member of the government bench who spoke out on the matter was Senator Iván Cepeda. He made it clear through a message on social networks that the head of state’s decision is not against the Argentine people, but against Milei.

“In addition to slandering our president, Gustavo Petro, President Milei seriously offends our Nation. The decision of our government is not against the Argentine people that we love and admire, it is against whoever governs them today with an authoritarian mood,” Cepeda explained.

For his part, the senator of the republic Humberto de la Calle, in an attempt to appear neutral, declared that discrepancies between presidents are inevitable and even “necessary”. However, he expressed that insults are inadmissible, that as a Colombian cannot accept the “infamous” statements of Javier Milei.

“Disagreements between presidents are inevitable. And perhaps necessary. But drifting towards insults is unacceptable. And as a Colombian, I cannot accept Milei’s infamous treatment of Gustavo Petro. The president symbolizes our sovereignty,” he said.

Finally, Andrés Forero, representative to the Chamber of the Democratic Center, He maintained that the government acted in a “lukewarm” manner through the statement where he announced the decision of President Gustavo Petro.
