The inhabitants of the municipalities of Buga, San Pedro, Ginebra, Guacarí, El Cerrito and Palmira (Cauca’s Valley), they face serious security problems and violations of their rights, on behalf of clashes between dissidents that occur in the area.

As revealed by the Ombudsman’s Office, through Early Alert 010-2024, “the worsening of the armed conflict and violence is due to the actions of expansion, advancement and dispute of the nascent Front 57 Yair Bermúdez, dissident of the FARCwhose purpose is the territories of control of structures of the Western Bloc Commander Jacobo Arenas, especially the Adán Izquierdo Front, supported by the Dagoberto Ramos Front, also of the FARC dissidents.

In this context, the Human Rights entity explains that The affected municipalities, being located in the Central mountain range, are a historical mobility corridor for illegal armed structures that seek communication between the departments of Cauca, Valle del Cauca and Tolima, connecting through the Las Hermosas moor.

That’s why The Ombudsman asked to protect the inhabitants not only of the six municipalities warned in the Early Warning, but of Valle del Cauca, “well Internal conflicts between FARC dissident fronts have led to an increase in human rights violations for the consummation of selective homicides, massacres, threats, restrictions on mobility, imposition of schedules, illegal checkpoints.”
