Camagüey, April 18.- The Gender Committee of the Public Health sector in the province of Camagüey carried out the First Methodological Workshop, framed within the initiatives that promote the National Program for the Advancement of Women.

The event took place at the Provincial Directorate of Hygiene and Epidemiology, where approximately twenty female professionals from the area gathered to discuss current and future challenges in the personal, social and work spheres.

Iluminada Menéndez Placeres, president of the aforementioned committee, pointed out that Cuban women have become a world reference for their achievements in rights and for the support received from the Revolution and the State for their empowerment.

During the workshop, the need to continue training and striving to ensure our position in society was emphasized. This commitment has been strengthened with the recent approval of the new Family Code, which recognizes and adds fundamental rights for mothers and grandmothers, commented Menéndez. Pleasures.

One of the main challenges is to demonstrate, through studies and research, the current situation of the sector in relation to this issue. Based on these findings, we will be able to effectively apply the National Program for the Advancement of Women both socially and in the professional, concluded the doctor.

Judith Aúcar López, Teaching Coordinator at the Provincial Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology and with two decades of experience in the health sector, recognized that the institution promotes a climate conducive to professional growth but it is crucial to work in the domestic sphere so that responsibilities of the home are shared equally among all members.

The National Program for the Advancement of Women, established in Cuba since March 2021, has as its fundamental goals education, prevention, social work, participation in decision-making, the establishment of a regulatory framework and protection systems against discrimination and violence, as well as the promotion of sexual and reproductive health.
