Jesús Rodríguez is the new director of the Valparaíso Regional Youth Symphony Orchestra

The director of the PUCV Chamber Orchestra, Jesús Rodríguez Rubio, was named as the new director of the Valparaíso Regional Youth Symphony Orchestra after obtaining the best national evaluation among the musicians who applied for the public competition to lead the groups of each region.

Rodríguez has more than 10 years of experience directing community orchestras in locations such as Algarrobo, El Tabo, Cartagena, Valparaíso and Villa Alemana. He is currently the director of the Sergio Leiva Student Orchestra of Viña del Mar and of the Chamber Orchestra of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso where he studied two degrees, a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Sciences and Arts and then Musical Performance with a mention in Cello, receiving the title as the best performer of his generation.

He described his arrival at the regional orchestra as a goal achieved along the path of his career. “For me it is very gratifying because I always knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to this to enhance my area. I did not want to study in Santiago because I love my region, that is why this position is so special, it is a personal achievement that is added to my appointment as principal conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of my university. “I am very happy at this moment and eager to make more and better music,” he said.

The National Foundation of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Chile (FOJI) is a non-profit institution that is in charge of managing each of the 15 regional orchestras around the country, whose directors are selected through a rigorous psychological evaluation process and curricular background. , among other criteria.

The Valparaíso Regional Youth Symphony Orchestra brings together around 55 children and young people up to the age of 24, who come from various communities and who obtain their place after a demanding annual audition process. The group has three rehearsal sessions a month in the commune of Valparaíso in view of the concert season that opens in spring, which Jesús Rodríguez plans to be big.

“My goal is to create a program that is quite challenging for us and attractive to the public. “I am going to give everything I can so that we are a generation of powerful regional orchestra, with projection, that reaches many audiences so that people get involved with our music through these young regional talents who have enormous potential,” he indicated. the musician.
