Last Monday, April 8, the Bogota City Hall announced that the capital and several surrounding municipalities will have to save water in shifts, due to the low levels in the main reservoirs in the region.

The first restriction was at 8 in the morning on Thursday, April 11. From then on they rotated through various areas of the capital, according to what was established by the schedule of the Bogotá Aqueduct and Sewerage Company (EAAB).

The last shift of the week is scheduled for Friday, April 19, which will cover the following addresses:

  • Between Calle 170 and 245, between Carrera 7 and 52.
  • Between Calle 235 and 242, between Carrera 45 and 107.
  • Municipality of Gachancipá and ESP Acuopolis.

According to the official website of the District, This April 20, water rationing measures will continue. Those who will have cuts for 24 hours will be the areas of shift 1, thus beginning the rotation again.

When will water rationing end in Bogotá?

In an interview conducted with Mayor Carlos F. Galán, For EL TIEMPO, the president explained that there will be two determining factors: first, the rains and their readiness to affect the reservoirs; and secondly, the reduction of consumption, including changes in behavior that affect consumption.

Recommendations to save water

The authoritiesThey have recommended staying calm and not exceeding the reserves stored in homessince if more water is used in the days before rationing, the measure would not be fulfilling any function.

  • Use a glass to brush your teeth.
  • Shower in a maximum of five minutes.
  • Collect the cold water from the shower in a bucket while it heats up.
  • Use the washing machine with a full load.
  • Turn off the faucet when shaving, lathering or applying shampoo.
  • Check that the gaskets of the faucets, showers and pipes do not present leaks.
  • Clean storage tanks at least twice a year to preserve the
  • quality of water in the home.

Additional charges for anyone who wastes water

Starting this April 16, the (EAAB) will analyze consumption and apply the disincentive measure to excess consumption for those who exceed 44 cubic meters every two months.

They must pay an additional amount for each cubic meter, which will be reflected in the invoice corresponding to the following billing cycle:

  • Bogotá: $3,380.84 per m3 above the limit.
  • Soacha: $3,105.39 per m3 above the limit
  • Gachancipá: $2,384.24, per m3 above the limit
  • Tocancipá and Zipaquirá: $2,082.39, per m3 above the limit
