An emergency caused outrage among the inhabitants of the municipality of Los Córdobas, in Córdoba, where, after the rains, a retaining wall that was under construction and had been contracted by the National Risk and Disaster Management Unit collapsed ( UNGRD). According to the mayor of the municipality, Juan Carlos Yances, the contractor did not take the necessary measures to prevent the collapse of the work.

The wall, 500 meters long, was intended to protect the inhabitants of the El Mamey neighborhood from flooding caused by the overflowing of the Córdobas River. “At the time of the construction of the wall, the strong current destroyed about 60 meters of the wall, precisely because not all measures had been taken without foreseeing that this torrential downpour was suddenly going to come,” reported the mayor of the municipality.

Before the structure collapsed, the work, whose construction contract was signed for a value of $4.8 billion, was 90% complete. “They inform us that it has been very difficult to resolve the payments that the National Risk and Disaster Management Unit has to make to the contractor. That work is already almost 90% complete and in reality what the Risk Unit has paid has been only 20%,” added the president.
In the municipality it has also been noted that more than 200 families have been affected as a result of the heavy rains that have occurred in recent days; especially in sectors such as Galilea 9, 10 and 15, material and livestock losses have been reported.
