The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies will be one of the protagonists of the Latin American celebration of free software that takes place this Saturday, April 27, within the framework of the Latin American Free Software Installation Festival (FLISoL) 2024. For that day , events have been organized in 12 cities, which becomes an opportunity to make visible the impact that open data has on solving public problems.

Through free software, citizen participation and collaboration can be encouraged in the digital transformation, thus contributing to the empowerment of the population through technological tools, as a democratization process to generate economic and social value.“said Belfor Fabio García Henao, Vice Minister of Digital Transformation.

This Festival, considered the most important of free software in Latin America, seeks to publicize the advantages of free software, technologies and cultures, within which are the freedom of use, copy, modification and redistribution. It will go until May 16, and will be present in more than 15 cities in the country at different times.

Saturday’s celebration will have activities in 12 cities: Barranquilla, Cajicá, Cali, Cúcuta, Facatativá, Ibagué, Popayán Quibdó, Sahagún, Santa Marta, Sogamoso and Medellín, where the headquarters will be the Pontificia Bolivariana University, Laureles headquarters.

The ICT Ministry will be at the event in the capital of Antioquia, to present the potential for use of the more than 8,000 data sets published by nearly 1,300 national and territorial entities by 2024, on the data.gov.co portal. . This information facilitates the development of web and mobile applications, decision-making tools, data journalistic products, academic research and social supervision and control exercises, by academia, developers, civil society and data journalists.

To be a Digital Power, you need to learn to manage and use data that will strengthen the development of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence in the country. Therefore, for the ICT Ministry it is very important to continue promoting the National Open Data Initiative, a pioneer in the country, which seeks to promote and enable the necessary conditions for the opening, use and generation of value from the Government’s open data. thus providing the necessary guarantees for compliance with the right of access to public information, stipulated in Law 1712 of 2014.

At the event, the ICT Ministry will also present the wide range of Digital Government courses for GovTech Talent, aimed at citizens and public servants, which are completely free. This training is a commitment to strengthening the IT capabilities of Colombians, on topics related to Digital Government Policy such as Open Data, Smart Cities, Digital Transformation Plans, IoT, Information Security and Privacy, Fourth Industrial Revolution, Agreements Price Framework, Business Architecture Framework, Digitization of Procedures, National Data Infrastructure Plan and Applied Artificial Intelligence, among others.
