ICC prosecutor supported justice in Colombia: “It is an example for the world”

The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan met in Bogotá with the Foreign Minister in charge of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murilloand other members of the Government.

Khan praised the current role of Colombia in matters of justice and highlighted the cooperation and work carried out as proof of success before the world.

“The example of Colombia and the work of the JEP, although some challenges remain, must be recognized. It is a country that has done so much and has sought to apply the law consistently. We continue working with the people, with the Government of Colombia and with its institutions. I believe, and I have said it around the world, that the example we see here is an example for the world,” Khan said.

For his part, the foreign minister in charge of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murillo said that he celebrates the importance of reaffirming ties of cooperation and, especially, the role of the victims.

“During this visit we are going to sign an agreement within the framework of accompaniment so that our judicial system can be nourished and, at the same time, so that our judicial system can offer all these experiences to the world. Furthermore, with the firm intention of seek the most effective way to compensate the victims and survivors of atrocious crimes that our painful history It shows us, but it also gives us the courage to continue forward and build a better country,” said Murillo.

The meeting this Thursday, April 25, 2024, was also attended by the Minister of Justice, the president of the JEP, the president of the Council of State, the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General of the Nation.
