The Margot Loyola Palacios Research and Documentation Fund for Traditional Chilean Music, a library specialized in Chilean and Latin American folklore, turned 25 years old and celebrated it with a series of activities in the new building of the Music Institute in Sausalito.

On the occasion, the professor and academic director of the Margot Loyola Palacios National Academy of Traditional Culture, Osvaldo Cádiz, pointed out that “our dream with Margot was that this Fund would be housed in the Institute of Music so that it would be available to all teachers. and students. It is exciting to think that now, within the Institute, people will be able to come to this new space to listen, investigate and learn.”

For his part, the academic of the Institute of Music and secretary of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education, Nelson Niño, highlighted its relevance: “the special significance is that the material was donated during his lifetime and is of great value for teaching research. All these books, records, recordings and photographs have been made available to the University and researchers in Chile and abroad.”

During the ceremony, the folkloric duo “Primas y Bordonas” performed, performing a sample of traditional Chilean music. In addition, the photographic exhibition “Margot Loyola: researcher, artist and teacher” was exhibited, dedicated to the academic.

María Eugenia Cisternas, coordinator and manager of the Margot Loyola Fund, explained the origin of this space at the Music Institute. “She thought of this Fund so that teachers would have tools to use in the classroom and that all the research that she had developed throughout her life would be available so that young people could learn about traditional Chilean culture and music. . Currently, it is visited by foreign and national researchers who carry out work in ethnography, sociology, musicology, and anthropology,” she pointed out.

The Margot Loyola Fund was moved and located in room 1-8 of the Music Institute and contains, mainly, photographic, phonographic and audiovisual documents related to Chilean oral tradition music from 1900 onwards.
