The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) announced a comprehensive review of the housing reconstruction plan in Sauces II, Mocoa, as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate areas affected by the emergency of 2017 in the territory of Putumayo.

With a focus on the 909 housing units contemplated in the reconstruction plan, the UNGRD has outlined a schedule of activities that covers various stages throughout the year. These include the technical validation of existing semi-structured housing, the recovery of illegally occupied land in both urban and rural areas, and the release of resources from contracts toold ones that have not been fulfilled.

On a second visit to Mocoa, the general director of the UNGRD, Carlos Carrillo Arenas, met with the victims of the tragedy of the 2017 to discuss the next phases of work. He stressed that, after seven years of waiting, it is crucial to move forward quickly in the construction of the homes in Sauces II.

To ensure the effective construction of the homes, a verification of the structures of the 168 existing units will be carried out, evaluating their suitability for a rehabilitation process. In addition, 408 homes will be built through a new construction process, while oafter 333 they will be financed with resources from the liquidation of old contracts.

Carrillo announced the start of phase zero, which involves clearing the land, grading and adaptation. This stage will be carried out in collaboration with local communities, who will be hired to carry out these activities with technical support, in line with the presidential directive to involve communities in the reconstruction process.

Regarding the Planadas property in the same municipality, Carrillo made an urgent call for the people who occupy it to vacateemphasizing that the eviction is necessary to advance the reconstruction project.

As part of his visit, Carrillo met with local authorities to coordinate efforts on important risk mitigation projects in the region. Furthermore, he expressed the intention to move towards directed self-construction, recognizing the vulnerability of the community that currently lives in precarious conditions.
