Within the framework of investments with royalty resources, the departmental president Rafael Martínez listened to the proposals of the sectors and populations regarding the improvement of roads, health, education, and environment for the construction of the 12+1 Departmental Development Plan, to overcome the poverty.

Investing royalty resources in the creation of tertiary roads, strengthening connectivity in rural areas, improving access to health and education services, were some of the conclusions obtained at the work table for the construction of the Departmental Development Plan 12 +1, to overcome poverty, which included the participation of the business sector, social leaders, ethnic communities, young people, women’s groups, representatives of academia, and members of the Departmental Assembly.

The governor of Magdalena, Rafael Alejandro Martínez, highlighted that the contribution and participation of all the social, productive, agricultural and commercial sectors of the department are key to the creation of the plan, which is the work route to continue with the development of the programs and Projects.

“This exercise is important and from what I see, we agree on the focus of what we have been prioritizing in the Development Plan. Indeed, at all tables expectations are generated. “Everyone wants to see their town connected to the other, everyone wants to see their aqueduct built,” explained Governor Martínez.

Given this panorama, Luis Nivita, representing the governing council of the Kogui, Malayo, Arhuaco reservation, explained that they will continue to work hand in hand with the government to materialize each of the projects.

“We must advance in institutional strengthening in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the plan is to strengthen an agreement of understanding and today it is necessary to reactivate it. We must find a solution for the department, this leads us to seek total peace with the indigenous peoples and mother nature. We proposed investment in education, environmental, health and road access issues,” said Nivita.

For her part, the director of the Association of Banana Growers of Colombia, Augura, Elena Bornacely, pointed out that the participation of various sectors in these working groups is key to creating a work route that benefits everyone in the department.

“It is wonderful that we can join forces from the public and private sides, prioritizing the improvement of roads and improving the economic development of the region. We definitely have to invest in sanitation, public services, security, encouraging the use of renewable energies, and we also have to improve the educational aspect for young people who live in rural areas,” said the union leader.
