The denial of access to the ESTA electronic visa to 300,000 European citizens who visited Cuba became the most recent proof that the unilateral laws of the United States against the Island have a broad extraterritorial effect, and that the attacks against it will not cease, especially when it comes to affecting the nation’s economy and tourism.
A publication on social networks by a member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, denounces the way in which the US Government imposes on European citizens which countries they can travel to and which they cannot.
The unfair inclusion of the Antillean nation on the list of US Sponsors of Terrorism (SST) has been one of the reasons given to limit the rights of these people who, through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), they could manage entry permission to the US for tourism or business, for a period of up to 90 days, without having to obtain a US visa previously, indicates Reportur.mx.
Now affected European citizens must resort to the traditional method, which involves applying for a traditional visa at a United States embassy where they reside. Due to the drastic reduction of the services of the diplomatic headquarters in Havana, this type of visa is not granted to those who live on the Island.
