In a few days and if the projections come true, the Paraná River will once again measure above three meters in the city of Santa Fe.

According to the data provided by the Argentine Naval Prefecture, the level this Wednesday at noon was 2.82 meters in the port of the provincial capital.

Thus, the river completes a week of pure growth: On April 23, the height in the port of Santa Fe was 2.10 meters.

It should be remembered that Paraná reached alert levels at the end of last year and the municipal government declared an emergency. The arrival of the water forced coastal families to evacuate, among other inconveniences.

In the summer, the level decreased by almost half and continued to decline until it leveled off at around two meters. However, in April another process of lowering the level was recorded in the region.

It was then that the Paraná reached the lowest height of the year: 1.45 meters on Tuesday, April 9. From that day on, a slow but steady rise began.

Forecast

This Tuesday, April 30, the National Water Institute (INA) updated its projections in relation to the heights of the Paraná River in the region’s ports.

For the city of Santa Fe, the agency foresees a level of 3.23 meters for next May 7. While seven days later, the height would reach 3.55 meters, according to the INA.

Meanwhile, for the city of Rosario, the Institute’s estimates indicate a level of 2.99 meters for May 7 and 3.37 meters for the 14th of this month.

For its part, for the port of Paraná, projections indicate a level of 3.12 meters for May 7 and for the 14th of this month, 3.37 meters.

Finally, the report highlights: “These are trends considered in the average daily values. “The levels are in the range of medium rising waters.”

The data provided by the INA.

In a report published by El Litoral, it was explained that the April that closed this week was the rainiest since 2018. The accumulated millimeters of water were 164.50 mm, according to estimates from the Meteorological Information Center (Fich-UNL), located in University City.

In this regard, engineer Ignacio Cristina, from the Fich-UNL Meteorological Information Center, explained: “This can be attributed to a Niño event, which is weakening and becoming neutral. For this reason, we are not seeing a very significant change to what would be normal conditions.”

However, the specialist clarified that dry months are coming. “We are entering the period of the year in which rainfall amounts begin to decrease. Even in the last 10 years we have had Augusts in which there has been no rain,” he assured.

“We are in a transition period from the Boy to Girl event and everything leads us to conclude that this coming winter should not be out of the normal, in fact the quarterly forecast is giving normal rainfall levels, with a certain tendency to go decreasing depending on whether the Niña event may occur starting in July,” he concluded.
