The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) released this Thursday details of a project that seeks to modernize veterinary services associated with small livestock in Cuba.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the host country, FAO and the European Union participate in the initiative, with the purpose of revitalizing technical assistance work that allows improving the productivity and health of animals for the sustainability and growth of the sector.
According to the FAO, there is progress in national capacities for clinical and gestational diagnosis of small livestock, through the provision of minor surgery and obstetrics equipment, mobile ultrasounds and X-rays, surgical instruments and artificial insemination kit, among other media.
Antibiotic and antiparasitic medications for veterinary use were also purchased to combat high-impact diseases in small livestock, the source added.
Six municipalities in the central provinces of Villa Clara and Sancti Spíritus serve as the setting for the implementation of the project, also valued very positively by managers and experts from both territories, given the expectation of increasing the sheep-goat mass and preventing health risks.
In general, the plan helps to spread good practices in animal management, reproduction and feeding, through a specific training program, said the FAO.
