The Cuban aviation system reaffirmed its commitment to the sustainable development of tourism as a fundamental link in the country’s economy within the framework of the celebration of the sector’s day – on Friday – at the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024).

Joel Archer Santos, president of the Cuban Aviation Corporation (CACSA SA), stated before authorities from the aeronautical and tourism sectors, representatives of airlines and tour operators that Cuba is committed to safe, efficient and sustainable aviation with the required quality and safety. on an international level.

At this time, said Oscar Henríquez Díaz, main specialist of the General Directorate of Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism, more than 90% of international visitors who arrive in Cuba do so by air, hence the importance of the synergy between the Ministry of Transportation and Mintur to increase this volume of visitors.

“We are not only talking about direct connectivity to Cuba, but also using the benefits that the airport and hotel infrastructure offers us as the largest island in the Caribbean to think about multi-destination,” he expressed.

This means that, with flights to Cuba, we can connect with the rest of the Caribbean and Latin America and vice versa.

Henríquez Díaz highlighted that in this summer season approximately 50 airlines fly to Cuba from more than 30 nations with weekly frequencies that are balanced with the pre-pandemic stage of 2018-2019 and “that is an objective, to solidly and gradually grow the arrivals of visitors with the joint work between both ministries.

Joanka Acosta Ortiz, commercial director of Cacsa, highlighted that 18 airlines and 54 attendees from the entire aviation sector participate in FitCuba 2024, as well as companies that provide parts and pieces services and others from the Aviation industry.

At the meeting, the restart of operations to Cuba of the airlines AirChina and Avianca was launched, which will operate in the months of May and June.

In this regard, Acosta Ortiz highlighted the importance of restarting flights with Air China, which will begin this May 17, not only from a commercial point of view, but also from a strategic and economic point of view. Operations will begin with two frequencies, in a first stage Tuesday and Friday, returning the next day.

In the case of Avianca, he added, it has returned to Havana since 2019, which means a very great achievement. He specified that this airline has always been a strategic partner from the point of view of air transportation, allowing visitors from all Central American countries to arrive.
